Xbox Title Sequence

Celebrating 20 Years of Xbox
Objective: To create a captivating title sequence celebrating 20 years of Xbox, utilizing a basic story archetype to craft a narrative that will be perceived as abstract by the audience—in that it clearly references a moral, mood, attitude, or emotion.
Concept
The challenge was to tell a story perceived as abstract while showcasing the legacy of Xbox. I employed a story archetype where I gradually reveal aspects of the main character, culminating in a full reveal at the end. The main character in this sequence is an Xbox controller, symbolizing the heart of the gaming experience.

To bring out the intricate details of the Xbox controller and emphasize its tactile presence, I used a macro lens paired with a magnifying glass. The macro lens allowed me to capture ultra-close shots that revealed the textures, curves, and identity of the object in an almost architectural way.
The magnifying glass served a dual purpose: it distorted the image in-camera to create dynamic, abstract transitions, and it introduced movement within the frame that felt organic and intentional. This physical manipulation of optics allowed the motion itself—not just camera movement—to push the narrative forward, aligning with the creative brief’s directive to use object movement to express story.
